Finally catching a break

Growing up in St.Paul the nearest casino to us is situated on the Cold Lake First Nation Reserve proudly  called Casino Dene. I have been trying to get my foot in the door to play the casino circuit and to my surprise there was a band cancellation that lead up to myself being asked to play a weekend on Sept 19th-21st. I called the b

oys up (my band “chief & council”) and told them that “we are in” and “we need to pack the casino with all of our family and friends so that my debut goes well so we will at least get a call back.”

I have watched some of the best bands, and artists in Canada come through Casino Dene,  and I felt like once I reach that stage I know that in my music career.... I have made it. People like my mentor Duane Steele have played there, Sweet Tequila, Cadillac Black,Just the Boys, Country Fyre, Endless Drive, Last Minute, just to name a few ..... are some of the bands that I look up to and admire for their musical abilities and talents. I knew that one day I would be able to play, and even if it was just one night or for one weekend I would be happy knowing I at least got to play one of my favourite stages for entertainment in the Lakeland.

Well guess what? I’m excited to announce that we will be back on Oct 26th for a night of heart pounding country, along with some toe tapping fiddle, 90s heartfelt country along with some original music and blues that you won’t want to miss. We have one of Canada’s top fiddle players joining us and you may have heard of Alex Kusturok brings a unique old metis style, mixed with his own flavour that makes songs like Big John McNeil and the Red River Jig impossible to sit down to. Be sure to keep an eye out for a battle during Orange Blossom Special where Donny Anaquod lead guitar player for “Chief & Council” takes on Alex Kusturok in a head to head duel over who can play lead to that song the best. This makes 1 night of music a night you won’t forget. Here is a link for the event so set yourself a reminder.
